FS2004 Boeing KC-97L Stratotanker

The first jet augmented KC-97 flew in April 1964; the jets
being taken off a KB-50J. After a three month successful
test program, the USAF authorized the modification of all
KC-97Gs into jet augmented KC-97Ls. The program was so
successful and cost effective that the last KC-97Ls were
not retired until June 1978.Original KC-97 model by Greg
Pepper, and Tom Gibson. KC-97L mods by A.F. Scrub
Flight Dynamics/textures by James Craig, original ANG textures by Dave
Mcqueen.Not tested in FSX.

Textures:Arizona,and Utah ANG.
KC-97L of the 191st ARS,Utah ANG.The KC-97L's served with the 191st from Oct,1972 until being replaced by KC-135A's in April of 1978.

KC-97L of the 197th ARS,Arizona ANG.These KC-97L's served with the 197th
from Aug.1,1972 until being replaced by KC-135A's in Oct.of 1977.

Installation

Normal installation just put the KC-97L folder in your FS2004 Aircraft folder.
Put the effects in that folder.(If you have the original aircraft from 2008,
place in your recycle bin.)Place the gauges in your gauges folder.

AIRCRAFT

1. Virtual Cockpit

2. There are no opening doors on this model. Operate the refueling boom by using the key combination you assign to the tailhook in Options/Controls/Assignments (I use Ctrl-Shift-T).

3. The working cowl flaps are opened by Ctrl-Shift-V, and closed by Ctrl-Shift-C (both in increments) or use the cowl flaps switch. Note: COWL FLAPS MUST BE CLOSED FOR INDIVIDUAL ENGINE START, OR WHEN YOU WANT TO SELECT A SINGLE ENGINE! This is due to an unfortunate gauge interaction.

4. The plane is complete with reflective textures.

5. The landing gear has working compression struts, and retracts as seen in vintage video.

6. The landing lights light the ground properly, and must be extended before use (press the L key, and then press Shift-W).

7. Jet engine smoke (press the I key)

8. FS2004 style nav, landing, and beacon lights (press the L key)

9. FS2004 style visual effects, including touchdown smoke

10. Working NAV2 radio

This plane also features animated landing gear, flaps, ailerons, elevators, and rudder.

REALISTIC ENGINE START

To start the engines realistically and individually, do this:

COWL FLAPS CLOSED

1. Go to Options/Controls/Assignments and set the 4 starters to
Ctrl-1 through Ctrl-4 (or other keys of your choice).
2. Go to spot view (Shift-S)
3. Press E3 to select engine #3.
4. Tap the Ctrl-3 key just enough to keep the prop moving slowly.
5. Wait for 6 prop blades to pass by.
6. Quickly press M+++: engine 3 will start.
7. Press E4 to select engine #4.
8. Repeat steps 4-6 to start engine #4.
9. Repeat steps 3-6 to start engines #2 and #1.
10. Press E1234 to get control of both engines back.
11. Normal start sequence is 3-4-2-1.

COWL FLAPS OPEN

PANEL:

Panel is included, by Greg Pepper. This panel is a pilot's panel; other engine gauges would be on a flight engineer's panel (not included).

1. Cowl Flaps - FOR INDIVIDUAL ENGINE CONTROL, MAKE SURE COWL FLAPS ARE CLOSED (gauge interaction). On ground, cowl flaps OPEN, for takeoff and climb 3 degrees (upper red line); minimum in flight is lower red line.

2. Deice panel is available with Shift-5

3. Center tank is used by the engines for normal flight. Fuel gauges on panel show the contents of CENTER tank (even though labeled LEFT and RIGHT). After aerial refueling, remove all fuel from wing tanks (transfer fuel) using the Aircraft/Fuel menu.
