Thanks to Rory Kelly, Michael Vader, Jim Jacobson, and Jarvis Chang who've given
their permission for the use of their original work in this project release. DSM
unzip to a temp folder ... you know what to do! (don't forget to put the weapons
in your CFS2scenedb etc folders ...)
Model:
Rory Kelly's FS2004 GMAX CH-46 Sea Knight model converted for use in CFS2. Rear
cargo ramp opens/closes with CTRL+E. I can't get the lights to work, I don't
think any other model features work in this CFS2 conversion.
Airfile: I had to "beef up" the airfile a bit to get off the ground with the 4
divers; you'll need lots of torque in the hover while the divers are on board.
With no weight on board, you can get about 125KIAS at 70% torque on a straight &
level flight. This CH-46 is very stable, even with the extra lift, and very nice
to fly!
Textures:
Original USN textures by Rory Kelly. USMC repaint by Jarvis Chang.
Panel Stuff ...
Hi Visibility Combat Panel (main panel): (shift+1)
Original 2D CH-53 panel bitmap by Michael Vader.
Modifications: The CH-53 bitmap was the closest I could find to a look-alike of
the Virtual Cockpit in the model. I trimmed it down for better visibility in the
game and to match the look of the VC panel, arranged a few common flight gauges
in a layout similar to the CH-47 cockpit pictures (couldn't find pics of a CH-46
cockpit!), and arranged a matching instrument layout on the Dynamic Virtual
Cockpit panel.
Radio Stack: (shift+2)
Standard Bendix-King Radio Stack.
Mini Panel: (shift+3)
The necessary flight gauges (including Radio Altitude)in a mini panel top-screen
layout. Toggle off the main panel & use the mini for combat ops, landings,
better visibility on SAR missions.
HUD display: (shift+4)
The necessary flight gauges in a HUD top-right screen layout. Toggle off the
main panel & use the HUD for combat ops, landings, better visibility on SAR
missions.
Gunsight: (shift+5)
The center gunsight ladder was developed for use with rockets on my helicopter
gunships and to target torpedoes/Demolition Divers. It's also good to use as a
horizon marker. The side ladders help aim the machine guns at various speeds and
altitudes.
You can use the helicopter gunsight with or without the stock gunsight. I prefer
to get rid of the stock gunsight altogether, here's how it's done: go into your
main CFS2 exture folder, re-name [gunsight64.bmp] to [gunsight64FW.bmp], FW for
fixed-wing. In the CH-46panel folder is [gunsight64(blank).bmp]; copy it into
your main CFS2 exture folder, then re-name it [gunsight64.bmp], then start the
game. When you want to switch back, just re-name [gunsight64.bmp] to
[gunsight64HELO.bmp], re-name [gunsight64FW.bmp] to [gunsight64.bmp].
GPS Panel: (shift+6)
there are 4 GPS gauges on the panel; European, Pacific & Lost World, VietNam &
Korea, and one that uses co-ordinates.
You can toggle the radio stack (shift+2), gunsights (shift+5), and the GPS
(shift+6) in DVC mode.
Most of the gauges are included in the gauge folder, all are freeware & commonly
available. Thanks to all who've shared their work.
Damage Profile:
Demolition Divers and Sling Load by Jim Jacobson. This CH-46 carries Machine
Guns in port and starboard side windows, and 4 Demolition Divers or a Sling Load
cargo net; accurate damage boxes.
Release the Sling Load as you would a bomb. It has no scrape point, so it will
be underground until you lift off. The dp is set for no damage, it shouldn't
harm your friendly targets despite the horrific explosion and fire. When I drop
a sling load on the landing pad of a moving ship, it leaves a smoking hole in
the ocean!
The Demolition Diver is a torpedo that looks like a diver; the CH-46 carries 4
Divers. You can release from a hover or slow & low flight. use the center
gunsight ladder to align your target.
Machine guns in both side windows are aimed for ground/ship strafing, GUN
trigger fires the starboard gun, CANNON trigger fires the port gun. Use the 2
side gunsight ladders for targeting.
